Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis Associated with Abdominal Carcinomatosis.

چکیده
PNEUMATOSIS CYSTOIDES intestinalis is a rare condition in which gas-containing cysts arise in the intestinal wall and elsewhere within the abdominal cavity. The cysts vary in size from a millimetre to several centimetres in diameter and may occur in large numbers. In most cases the cysts are subserous but occasionally they arise in the submucous layer of the intestine. The pneumatosis is most often found in the small intestine and this may be the only area affected, but caecum, colon, parietal peritoneum, mesentery, omentum and lymph nodes are sometimes involved. In over 50% of cases there is a peptic ulcer present, usually with some degree of stenosis, but the condition has also been described in association with tuberculous enteritis, carcinoma of stomach, appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, enteritis, colitis, peritonitis, intestinal parasites, and even following Caesarian section. In some cases the disease appears to be idiopathic. In this patient the pneumatosis was associated with microscopic, and later macroscopic, infiltration of the intestine with neoplastic tissue.

متن کاملImprovement of pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis after steroid tapering in a patient with bronchial asthma: a case report
INTRODUCTION We report the case of a patient who was diagnosed as having pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis while being treated with prednisolone for bronchial asthma. Even before we had experienced a case of this, the relationship between pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis and prednisolone was unclear. In this case, pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis was improved with the reduction of predniso...

We describe a 64 year old woman with a 3-year history of scleroderma who presented as an emergency with increasing painless abdominal distention. Radiological investigations revealed a pneumoperitoneum in the absence of either visceral perforation or pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis. This is only the fourth report of spontaneous benign pneumoperitoneum complicating scleroderma without pneumat...

متن کاملPneumatosis cystoides intestinalis : report of two cases.
We present two cases of Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis (PCI) involving the small intestine: emergency operations was mandatory. At surgery, the affected ileal segments were resected. After surgery, clinical courses were uneventful. PCI is a sign, not a disease, and therefore its significance is directly related to the patient's overall clinical status. Treatment is not indicated in asymptom...
